The Best Baby Teethers For Instant Relief (2020 Guide)

The Best Baby Teethers For Instant Relief (2020 Guide)

Teething can be a tumultuous time for your baby—their poor little gums are on fire, and they certainly have a disposition to match.

That’s why teether toys are a must!

Whether you’re making your registry, or shopping around for your little one if they’re about to sprout their first tooth, here are five teether toy suggestions to help your baby get through this painful teething period.

These four teethers are all great items to have around because of their dual purpose nature—they not only served as a teether, but a toy as well.

Why Your Baby Needs a Teether

Babies primarily use teethers to help release pressure they are feeling on their gums when their teeth are about to cut through.

It feels good for them, especially when the teethers are cooled.

But, I recently learned that buying a teether has another benefit.

It helps your little strengthen their mouth and tongue movements, which directly correlates to their speech development skills.

Babies gain awareness of their mouth and may begin to babble words and sounds like, “mama,” “dada,” and “baba” sooner.

If you watch a baby, they are just prone to putting anything in their mouths!

Why not give them something that will encourage this developmental milestone that is safe and soothing.

Important Features to Look For When Shopping

Dual-purpose. As I stated above, you get the most out of your money when you buy not just a teether, but a toy as well.

It will keep your baby entertained in numerous ways, and they will still have something little to play with once their teeth come through.

I also love it when teether toys have an attachment component. You can ensure it stays off the ground once your little one begins to throw items, or if they aren’t able to hold the teether well on their own yet.

Another added bonus is that they are able to be tossed into the fridge or freezer in order to provide a cooling sensation for their little, painful gums.

Easy to clean. You may want to avoid a teether that has a lot of nooks and crannies. This just makes it more difficult to wipe down and sanitize.

Always try to find a teether that is able to be put in the dishwasher just for convenience purposes.

Safe. Look for a teether that is BPA-free.

Your baby is going to be putting it in their mouth a lot, so you never want to expose them to harmful plastics or chemicals.

Durable. Your baby is going to be noshing on their teether often. You obviously want something that will hold up to all of this chewing.

You also don’t want something that will lose its firmness or that will deteriorate if tossed in the dishwasher (this could lead to a safety hazard).

Cost. Teether toys should not break the bank.

You don’t need to spend more than $10-$15 to have a high quality, safe item on your hands.

Best Baby Teethers

#1. Manhattan Toy Winkel Rattle

The Manhattan Toy Wrinkle Rattle (click here to check the price on Amazon) will delight your baby’s gums and their senses, and is definitely my favorite baby toy teether.

This teether serves also as a toy, and has lots of soft tubes that wrap around a middle rattle piece.

It’s BPA free, so it’s safe and it’s made strong to withstand lots of munching, crunching, tugging, and tossing.

It's the perfect size to toss in a diaper bag, and not take up a lot of space at home (I refuse to let toys take over my house).

It’s great for newborns to two year olds, who still may be developing teeth.

Plus, it received the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award, so you know it’s a high quality, high rated item!

#2. Nuby Icybite Teething Keys

I received a few of these Nuby Teething Keys (click here to check the price on Amazon) at my baby shower, and boy, was I glad I did!

I had Nubby’s Icybite key ring with me pretty much everywhere I went. I left a set in my stroller, by my highchair, in my diaper bag, and even in my car.

They are small, yet effective.

My son loved playing with the keys before devouring one!

It kept him occupied on long trips and I loved the fact that I could toss them in the fridge for a cooling sensation.

They are simple to clean and they are BPA-free.

Plus, they're super affordable, which made my wallet happy.

Overall, they are a fun, effective, and colorful item your baby will love holding and chewing!

#3. Baby Banana Toothbrush Teethers

I absolutely loved this Baby Banana Toothbrush Teether (click here to check the price on Amazon), and my son loved chewing on it because it was the perfect combination of soft, squishy, yet firm.

Meanwhile, I loved it because it got him used to the routine (and feeling) or brushing his gums and eventually, his teeth.

The little brush stimulates the gums and removes residue in the mouth (I made sure I cleaned it thoroughly daily).

He was able to hold it without help and I often kept it in my back pocket when we went in the store in case I needed to pull it out if he got fussy or tried to eat the shopping cart handle.

It’s super affordable, and it lasted all throughout his baby years and toddlerhood.

Highly recommend!

#4. Nuby Wacky Teething Ring

Slightly different than the hard/soft teething ring, Nubby’s other teether, the Wacky Teething Ring (click here to check the price on Amazon) is also a very good teething toy to have around.

A little more costly, (but by no means super expensive), this teething toy features multiple teething surfaces that range from soft silicone to firm spots that target different teeth and areas of the mouth.

It’s easy to hold and I love its colorful fabric that crinkles whenever it gets touched.

It too is BPA free and small enough to take anywhere.

My son loved its textured surfaces, which kept him curious and stimulated!

Wrapping Up

When my kiddos were little ones, I never left home without a teether toy.

In fact, I can’t name a room in my house that didn’t have one in it.

Not only are they great for easing your baby’s pain, but they help develop very important muscles that attribute to speech development.

Check out my recommendations above to give your baby a dual use toy they will love to utilize.
